Error Budget
An error budget is an agreed allowance for how much a service can fall short of its objective before action is required.
Example
A team with a 95% on-time delivery objective has a 5% error budget; once misses in a period exceed that share, the team pauses new commitments to address the cause.
Why it matters
An explicit budget turns "try not to miss deadlines" into a concrete trigger for when to stop and investigate, rather than a vague aspiration.
Limits and cautions
A budget set without real historical data will either trigger constant false alarms or never trigger at all.
Relevance to Stelaah
Stelaah's reporting can track actual performance against a stated objective, making an error budget's consumption visible over time.
