Escalation Path
An escalation path is a defined route for raising an issue to someone with the authority or context to resolve it when the normal process can't.
Example
A request that automatically routes to a backup approver after a set response window, instead of waiting indefinitely for the original approver.
Why it matters
Without a defined path, people either wait indefinitely or escalate informally and unpredictably, both of which create delay and inconsistency.
Limits and cautions
An escalation path should feel like normal process, not a signal of failure. Treating escalation as a last resort discourages people from using it when they should.
