Initiative Overload
Initiative overload is the state where a team has more concurrent strategic projects underway than it has capacity to execute well.
Example
A leadership team approves six new initiatives at an annual planning session without retiring any existing ones, leaving the same team responsible for all of them at once.
Why it matters
Recognizing overload directly makes the tradeoff visible: adding a new initiative without cutting one usually means all of them move slower.
Limits and cautions
Not every slow initiative is a symptom of overload. Some are genuinely difficult regardless of how much else is happening in parallel.
