A client's contact details living in one authoritative record, with every document that needs them referencing it rather than storing a separately maintained copy that can drift out of sync.

Why it matters

When the same information is duplicated across multiple places, disagreements about which version is correct become inevitable. A single source of truth removes that ambiguity by design.

Limits and cautions

Having one "master" document does not by itself count as a single source of truth. It only counts if other systems actually reference it, rather than maintaining their own independent copies.
