Data Silo
A data silo is information trapped in one system or team's tool that other parts of the business can't access or connect to.
Example
Client payment history lives only in the finance team's accounting software, invisible to the account manager trying to assess overall relationship health.
Why it matters
Identifying a silo shows exactly where a decision-maker is missing information that already exists somewhere in the business, just not where they can see it.
Limits and cautions
Not all data needs to be universally visible. Some separation is intentional, for privacy or role-based reasons, and shouldn't be treated as a silo to eliminate.
