Documentation Debt

Documentation debt is the accumulated gap between how a process actually works and what is documented about it.

Example

A process audit revealing the documented version hadn't matched actual practice for months.

Why it matters

Naming documentation debt explicitly turns a vague sense that "the docs are out of date" into something with a clear owner and a review cadence.

Limits and cautions

Paying down documentation debt once is not sufficient. Without a review cadence, it reaccumulates immediately after being caught up.

Relevance to Stelaah

Stelaah keeps documentation attached to the process or record it describes, where supported.

This connection describes product intent, not a guarantee that every plan or workflow supports every related capability.
