On-Call Rotation
An on-call rotation is a schedule that assigns responsibility for urgent, after-hours issues to a different team member on a rotating basis.
Example
Each week, a different team member is the designated contact for anything urgent that comes in outside normal hours, so the responsibility doesn't fall permanently on one person.
Why it matters
Sharing the burden across a rotation prevents one person from absorbing every after-hours interruption indefinitely.
Limits and cautions
A rotation that's too small, or covers too many genuinely urgent issues, can still burn out its members even while nominally shared.
Relevance to Stelaah
Stelaah's team scheduling can track who's on the rotation for a given period, giving everyone a clear reference for who to escalate to.
